Luca’s Surprise Ride: One Spin of the Wheel
Keep the Wheels Turning
Stories like Luca’s are why Pineapple Ride exists. When you donate gear, volunteer time, or contribute funds, you’re not just helping us fix bikes—you’re building confidence, fostering independence, and creating safer streets for everyone.

Keep pedaling, keep smiling, and remember: sometimes all it takes is one spin of the wheel to change a kid’s world.
Ride safe. Ride smart. Ride with Pineapple Ride.
Last weekend the Pineapple Ride crew rolled into the NY Bike Jumble in Park Slope with a simple goal: trade smiles for donations and channel every dollar straight back into safer cycling for NYC. Our booth was buzzing—part pop-up bike shop, part carnival, part community garage sale. Visitors spun our “Wheel of Fortune” for prizes like lights, bells, and reflective stickers, and our mechanics gave on-the-spot tune-ups to anyone who needed them.
A Bike Looking for a New Home
Mid-morning, a passer-by paused at our table.
“I’ve got a kid’s bike I need to give away—any chance you could use it?”
Absolutely. At Pineapple Ride we never let a serviceable bike go to waste. We checked the brakes, tweaked the gears, gave the chain a fresh dose of lube, and finished with our signature Pineapple safety check. The little blue bike was ready for its next chapter.
Enter Luca—Eight Years Old, Big Dreams
Not long after, an energetic eight-year-old (we’ll call him Luca) and his father stepped up to try their luck at the wheel. We told him the grand prize was that freshly tuned bike now standing proudly at our booth. Luca’s eyes lit up!
He gave the wheel a determined spin. The pointer slowed… tick-tick-tick… Bingo—grand prize! The entire market seemed to pause as volunteers cheered and Luca and his father erupted in excitement. In that instant, a used bike became a ticket to freedom, confidence, and endless neighborhood adventures.
Why Moments Like This Matter
Equipment: Luca rode off on a bike that fit him perfectly, complete with a bell color-matched to the frame.
Environment: Another bike stays on the road (and out of a landfill), and one more young rider joins our growing community of safe cyclists.
